The Hempstead County Quorum Court met Thursday in the large courtroom at the Courthouse. The JP’s and spectators were social distanced.
Following the approval of the minutes the JP’s turned their attention towards a new county handbook. Handbook Committee Chairman James Griffin suggested tabling the the consideration until the JP’s can be more comfortable around the meeting table. The JP’s voted to table the handbook.
Peggy Lloyd asked the JP’s to consider seeking funds from Arkansas Historic Preservation to renovate the current courthouse. She said she thinks the old courthouse will be needed for the storage of historic records. She offered her assistance in seeking grant funds. Judge Jerry Crane thanked her and said he will be visiting further with her.
Sheriff James Singleton said the county employees have be tested for COVID and one deputy has posted positive. He also said four deputies had responded to a fight at Saratoga and were exposed to a positive COVID patient. The sheriff said he is working around this situation. He noted the jail is locked down and the lobby to the Sheriff’s Department is locked. There is an intercom.
There was no other business and the meeting adjourned.
